Frequently Asked Questions

What material is this sponge rubber strip made from?

It is manufactured from expanded closed cell Neoprene/EPDM sponge rubber — a waterproof, compressible material with excellent resistance to UV light, weathering, and acids.

Is the strip suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The closed cell structure is fully waterproof and the material offers excellent resistance to UV light and weathering, making it well suited to outdoor sealing and protection applications.

How does the self-adhesive backing work?

One face of the strip carries a factory-applied pressure-sensitive adhesive protected by a removable yellow or white release liner. Peel the liner and press firmly onto a clean, dry, grease-free surface for a secure bond.

What temperature range can this strip withstand?

The strip operates reliably between −40°C and +70°C, covering most UK outdoor, automotive, and light industrial environments.

Can this strip be used with oils, petrol, or solvents?

No. Resistance to oil is rated poor and the material is not recommended for direct contact with petrol or solvents. For oil-exposed environments, a nitrile-based rubber would be more appropriate.

Are there size tolerances I should be aware of?

Yes. Width tolerance is ± 1.0 mm for strips up to 25mm wide and ± 1.5 mm for wider strips. Thickness tolerance for the 20–25mm range is ± 10%. These are standard manufacturing tolerances for sponge rubber and should be factored into close-clearance applications.

* This material is not recommended for exposure to petrol, oils, or solvents.
* Ensure the application surface is smooth, clean, dry, and free from oil or grease before bonding.
* Due to the compressible nature of sponge rubber, small tolerances in width and thickness are inherent to the material and manufacturing process.
* All figures stated are average values. We recommend verifying suitability for your specific application before use.
